An Evening with Annie & Rod Capps with Jason Dennie
Over the years, Annie and Rod Capps have done it all; from hard rock to musical theater. The 80’s and 90’s found them performing nearly every weekend in the bars and pubs around the Detroit area. In the later 90’s, Annie picked up the guitar again and started writing. The transition to “folk” was gradual but eventually they shifted to acoustic instruments and found an entirely new world of listening rooms. Already seasoned performers they soon developed a new fan base of people who wanted to hear their original songs. The word “folk” covers a broad sonic range of genres and influences – what comes out is a hybrid sound all their own. Together they weave unforgettable melodies that are at once intricate and sparse – musically completing each other’s sentences. 9 studio albums later they continue to explore their love of blending diverse styles to create a fresh sound all the while sticking to their narrative of “songs about broken things and poignant little ponderings delivered with a rootsy vibe, a touch of twang and a soulful groove”. They’ll be performing as a trio with Jason Dennie on mandolin.
