Kate McDonnell, singer-songwriter, plays her guitar "upside-down-and-backward," and sings with her whole being. She has performed solo at the Newport Folk Festival, on the Mountain Stage radio program, on WXPN’s “World Café” and at The Kennedy Center. Her award-winning songwriting has been singled out for praise by The Village Voice, Sing Out!, the Boston Globe, and Dirty Linen. Her five albums are available on the Waterbug Records, Appleseed Recordings, Brambus Records, and Dog-Eared Discs labels. Kate took a 15-year hiatus from professional music, earned her MSW, and worked with troubled children in public schools and day treatment facilities. Kate is performing again with a fresh batch of soulful and fierce original songs, many co-written by Anne Lindley, from her new 2021 album entitled Ballad of a Bad Girl. Her new album hit the top-20 chart for most frequent airplay on US folk radio for the year of 2021, and was #5 and #6 the two months following its release. Kate’s is joined by well-known musicians Jerry Marotta on drums and Tony Levin on bass on this project.
