YOUR HOSTS AND THE ARTIST ARE FULLY VACCINATED; YOU BE TOO. It never hurts to ask. I was listening to Wesley Stace’s XPN Free at Noon LATE STYLE show last November, and he mentioned he was performing a benefit in Princeton that evening. I attended said benefit, and after the show I asked if he ever did house concerts. The answer surprised me, and we’re very excited to introduce Wesley to our gourmet audience. I knew Wes as John Wesley Harding on WFUV, and I attended an evening of conversation and music with Wesley, Steve Earle and Josh Ritter at a New York Public Library series all the way back in 2011. LATE STYLE is a new sound for Wes; bossa nova is host Ken’s favorite music genre, and this latest release has a seductive sound and bossa nova vibe, evidenced here in “Everything All the Time” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGxBmX41sHs... You may also know Wes from his brilliantly curated Cabinet of Wonders shows at City Winery; THE NEW YORKER has declared the series “a vaudeville show that combines music and literature, resulting in one of the finest nights of entertainment this city has to offer.” When I caught a Cabinet of Wonders show in 2011 the guests included Andrew Bird, David Wax Museum, Tiff Merritt and poet Paul Muldoon; you have a chance to see his next City Winery NYC Cabinet of Wonders showcase Sunday, November 6 If you’re just discovering Wes here, here’s the short bio: he was born in Hastings, East Sussex in 1965. He has recorded duets with, among others, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, and Rosanne Cash. He’s also published four novels (I’m midway through WONDERKID as I type), and recently co-wrote Mark Morris’ memoir OUT LOUD. He has taught at Princeton, Swarthmore and Fairleigh-Dickinson University, and writes regularly for the Times Literary Supplement and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. He lives in Philadelphia, which leads me back to the beginning of this essay. Since he lived relatively close by I asked if he performed house concerts, his response was “rarely.” I made my pitch, and apparently it was persuasive. Wes will be performing solo, so it’s sure to be an afternoon of wonderful storytelling and songs, and hey, you never know who might decide to take a ride up the Parkway to the Cozy Cabin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gNuwtXNSu4 https://www.wesleystace.com/
