WRFG's Community Sessions: Local Singer/Songwriters in the Round

WRFG presents our first Community Sessions concert showcasing all-female singer/songwriters. Kate Coleman (Run Katie Run), the Pussywillows, and Martina San Diego will perform in an intimate concert featuring Americana, blues, and acoustic rock. Hear these women express female empowerment through music and humor. Community Sessions is Sunday, September 29th starting at 4pm in the Little 5 Points Community Center 1083 Austin Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30307. It’s the same building as the WRFG studios. Parking is available in the back gravel lot. There is elevator access to the 2nd floor where the event is being held. For accessibility, please email office@wrfg.org . Tickets are $20. Kate Coleman is the lead singer for the Atlanta band Run Katie Run which describes themselves as a roots rock band that sounds like the Grateful Dead and the Dixie Chicks combined into one entity. Kate has a distinctive singing voice which prompted one blogger to proclaim – “If you ever wondered what Janis Joplin would have sounded like doing country, the answer may be in Kate Coleman”. Kate’s easy-going and engaging personality makes watching her perform a rare treat. According to their website, The Pussywillows are “not just a flowing plant”. They are Carly Gibson and Hannah Zale who have joined forces to leave their mark on the Georgia music scene as an Indie/Alternative Rock supergroup exploring their self-proclaimed “Tarantino feminism” sound. “Individually, Hannah and Carly are exceptionally strong performers and songwriters; together they are positively formidable”. Martina San Diego is a Filipina-American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who weaves a tapestry of ethereal, alternative folk sounds inspired by her diverse life experiences having lived in the Philippines, New York City and now Atlanta. “Always in a contemplative headspace, her music will leave you feeling wistful and nostalgic for simpler times”.
